Build your own house

Have you ever been in a situation where you are house hunting but you just can’t seem to find what you want.  Perhaps the properties are too small,  maybe it’s just too big,  the location is in the wrong place as if it’s not rural enough  or maybe you’ve just reached the point where you know exactly what you want and it’s time for you to lay down your own specifications.  Building your own house is not as difficult or as complicated as it might first seem.  There was something of a fad for self builds at one point and whilst the enthusiasm has died down there is still the opportunity to pursue this if you want to.  Many mortgage lenders will still and take the self-build option slowly releasing the money as the stages of the property are completed.

Gaining the land is probably the hardest part of the whole situation.  Planning permission must be applied for and an area of land suitable for development needs to be purchased.  There is also no guarantee that you’ll be able to plug directly into the mains so you may be looking at a situation where you have an Artesian well for water and oil-powered electrical systems.
